(pronounced as the male monarch’s name)
Q is for Quing
Lately, I’ve been wondering
If women can’t be kings
Not that queen isn’t a good word
It’s fine
But for many, it rudely matters that
The queen is not the king
We’ve had women working as kings
King Elizabeth the First
King Victoria
And if Pope Joan’s and Nefertiti’s
Reigns are believed,
They ruled as kings in their
Respective cultures
If queens don’t want to be kings
I understand
After all, kings actual, though
Royal, too often do not take well
To scrutiny
But overall I’d like to say
Hail, King Elizabeth
Hail, King Zenobia

A refreshing viewpoint about leadership and how gender should not be the decisive point.
Please have a beautiful Wednesday! 🙂

Thank you! Leadership should be about who has the skills for the community and the time.
Wednesday’s been pretty good. I napped, which I’m not too good at doing. Enjoy Thursday, please!

Impressive modern viewpoint on leaders and royalty. I suppose we need a word that is not defined by gender for those type of rulers. Then again I think, the feminist movement if anything is not being ashamed of being women and being called a female in different titles, but being equal to our male counterparts. Therefore, a Queen should always have equal power/authority to a king. But I don’t mind the word Queen, it has power in itself, a power of being a woman and using a woman’s charms and strengths to rule as an authority. Just as men have their own charms and strength. I think both genders should be themselves and rule with equality so that when there is no King – Queen equally replaces him and when there is no Queen to inherit, King equally replaces her duties. Loved this poem!

I’m happy for your reaction to the poem. Thanks! Regarding your thoughts, you’re right, there’s nothing wrong with being queen. And to use our respective gender qualities in constructive ways. The better aim of feminism, as I understand, is inclusion and equality. Inclusion, of course, means that everything and everyone’s included. Women certainly do not have to behave as men in order to be strong or seen as strong. And men should be themselves (ourselves) as well. It’s maybe ironic that feminism should be leading the way to total human appreciation and reliance. But chauvinism is not supporting this, I’ll go with the feminists. Led by the Queen.

I feel strongly for women in leadership. This poem speaks to me. They could be called a King or Queen or Quing, as long as they are empowered to make a difference, I’m all for it. Loved this.

Thanks, Annie, for your feeling about the poem. I feel strongly about women leadership as well, especially having experienced some good examples, starting with my sister’s. The play in monarch titles is hopefully to get us (well, some, at least) to think about gender equality regarding who’s in charge. Each should be empowered by what each can do.

What a privilege it must have been to have the examples right next to you. Please send my regards and respect to your sister. ☺️
