Manatee
All its age enfleshed
In deep-lined wisdom
Swims only enough
A round eye of black
Takes in everything
Takes you, takes me
Through a green liquid
Medium into inner
Space
Where energy abounds
And what the elder
Dreams
Flashes to merge with
Synaptic feelings
Action transduced into
Creation’s lightning
Welled in obsidian
Eye of the prototype
Mer-person for
A new world

Interesting poem. Though it goes beyond Manetees themselves, I would like to see one, I heard they are gentle, also called “sea-cows.” The line “Mer-person” for a new world fascinates me. Nice write.

Thanks, Mandi! I’d like to see them, too (only in videos so far). It’s possible that explorers saw them (from a distance) and thought they were mermaids. Their eyes are black and look like liquid depth.

I saw it in a video, wrote the name down, and kept going. Mystic and fantastic? Gee, sister, you made my tomorrow. You made my today, too, though it’s almost over. And I want to enjoy the feeling longer! I hope this week is going well for you.

Ahh what a wonderful poem for a majestic animal. Manatees don’t get enough love, I think.

I think you’re right, even though they are so lovable. Thanks!
