I use C L Couch when writing formally because it is a version of my name that's genderless. And, frankly, easier for handwriting--I have a severe writer's cramp. In conversation, I go by Christopher, having been named for the boy who had the poly bear and finally being (achieving) fine with that.
I use small Xes all the time because WordPress won't let me cut and paste the text from my program page to this one. (Grrrrrr.)
I am a career educator, semi-retired due to disability. I live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (USA).
The main photographs at this site (of the road, of me) were crafted by photographer and my friend Debra Danielson. A variety of her work is available for appreciation at
Thank you, lookers, hearers.--Christopher

No complaints. The air is turned down in the house. It’s nice and cool in here.
It’s hot and humid out there.

Yes, a day for indoor living!

I am well, Christopher. Trust you are as well. Happy to hear you survived the doctor’s visit. I know I should visit my family doctor but my mother had brainwashed me into thinking that all doctors hold shares in senior’s facilities and their only purpose is to put you in one. Though at the tender age of 72, I don’t think I’m ready for one yet. I keep thinking I should at least go for a blood test. But never do. On to happier thoughts. I”m currently reading book 2 of a young adult series ‘The Path of the Rangers’ by Pedro Urvi Sarima. Very light Summer reading and an enjoyable storyline. I’ve started watching ‘The Golden Compass’ a joint BBC/HBO production on TV. I own and have read the complete set of books by Philip Pullman and am entranced by the cinematography in the TV series, really well done. I still haven’t been to a store, I refuse to wear a mask. But my attitude is slowly starting to change, as the latest thinking in Canada is that this could drag on till Christmas. Perish the thought. Weather here is still hot and humid with a thunderstorm breaking out every so often. Three days ago it seemed like our house was sitting under a waterfall, the rain was gushing from the roof as the eavestroughs failed to hold the downpour. Happy days.

I’m happy to hear you’re well, Len, despite the gushing rains. We seem to be getting a version of your weather here (our weather often comes from Canada), though I think the storms here have been less severe. Thanks for mentioning the Y-A series that you’re reading! And the production of The Golden Compass. I remember hearing about the show’s coming, but I think my only chance to see it will be on BBCA or maybe PBS, someday. I haven’t invested in HBO. Yours is the first comment I’ve heard about this production, and I’m glad to hear it’s good.
I didn’t go to doctors much and hadn’t been in the hospital as a patient since when I was born. Then I had what I have to call my first heart attack. There have been emergency surgeries and scheduled ones, weeks of post-op therapy, and many many pills to take that change in kind and frequency. It’s all been hard, but I’m still here. The doctors aren’t happy I do so much on my own, but I haven’t yet been pushed to live elsewhere.
As for the virus, what do I know. But I think we should have shored up ourselves to live a year or so with shared, widespread precautions. In the USA, at least (and however), no common feeling has been encouraged. We’re invited to pick one person’s camp or another’s. Sigh.
I hope it’s a pleasant weekend for you, Len!

Getting away from the doctor without a note for some hospital service is always good. When there’s something even a little thing like air conditioning in the car, to be pleased about, then that’s good too.

Thank you, I agree. This was a pretty scotch-free meeting. I have a small car and not-so-powerful air conditioning, but the car and the a-c work, and I am thankful.

Thankful for small mercies, as my grandma would say.

Air Conditioning is one of the best inventions ever made!

Isn’t it fantastic? And now there is no freon. I ask my Southern family how they live in the heat, and they say “a-c.” So much for any secrets I thought the region had.

I say the same thing, I can endure the heat as long as I can get out of it!
