Touchstones
I’m looking for
I’m always looking for
Something small and elegant
Like a Fabergé egg, perhaps
Or an egg-sized trilobite
The larger things
Belong in museums
Where we can see them safely
Mostly
Hoping crowds can keep themselves at bay
They can’t
I’ll take my palm-sized treasures
Though, like moon rocks, the Fabergé
Would be too much
I’ll take my fossils
Or a stone polished by water
Or the found things
I’ve made into tableaux
Enjoy retired moments
Before I go
Outside again

A Fabergé egg would be quite a find. It would probably count as treasure trove through. Polished stones are pretty and nobody would begrudge you them.

Yes, the egg would be too much, as would the moon rock. I’m all for having things that go unbegrudged. (Whew.)

No point making people envious 🙂

Are you a collector, Christopher. I used to enjoy my little collections, particularly books. It’s in the blood. I was doing it from around the age of 14. My first collections were paperback. Trying for the complete Hercule Poiret books by Agathe Christie. Not sure what happened to them.

Hercule Poirot–good theme for collecting! I enjoy Agatha Christie stories, though my sister is the Christie arch-reader and expert in the family. In the car, I’m about to listen to the first Poirot story.
I have many books, so maybe that’s a collection. I don’t know, many of them were for my work. But there were (are) many of them. I used to think I didn’t collect things, but actually I have a collection (not a grand one) of walking sticks. And I have a smaller (in terms of number) collection of fossils.
Good hunting, Len!
