Field Manual for Seasons
Blue peeks through
Green netting
On a midsummer day
Maybe it’s high summer, now
A timetable is needed
Not for tides
But for the broader reaches
Of the seasons
Something to say
These are dog days
Tell the dogs, they’ll want to know
When are cat days?
Silly humans, cats say,
Every day
Give dogs a few
It could also be a time
For field mice
Chipmunks, squirrels
All creatures seem to know
The seasons,
When to bury food
When to look for it again

So sweet … the Scampers have been chasing both squirrels and rabbits, this week. I note that the squirrels are eating the squash leaves from the vines and maybe flowers. 🙂

Thank you. I’m glad the Scampers are enjoying these days. And if the squirrels are eating leaves, I hope that means the squash are all right.

The dog days of Summer indeed, Christopher. Have you also noticed the squirrels scurrying around burying things? Enjoy the moment before Mr. Winter comes pounding at your door.

So August are the dog days. I figured but never knew, officially. I have noticed squirrels carrying things out back. They are conversant squirrels for some reason, coming toward the window and squeaking away. My cat used to chitter back at them. As I recall, squirrels in Canada could be gray or black. Am I remembering right, Len?

for a moment, you transported me outside my cream cage in the middle of the city, into the arms of nature and its adorable creature. for that i thank you, brother.

You’re welcome, sister. I’m happy you got some color and recalled some animals. I’ve mostly lived near cities though never in them. For me, that would be quite a challenge to get used to.

i am in the middle of a city right now, been locked here since March, so im telling you i miss the sea and the woods and all their creatures a lot.

I suppose it would be naive to say I hope you see and fully sense the sea and woods and animals soon. But I’m going to hope and pray for this to happen, anyway.

That is what we could do for now. brother. Nothing is naive with hope. 🙂
