If everyone had what they want
Aberrance aside
I mean a place to live
That is secure and likable
Food
For need and a little more celebration
The chance to learn
Some might say we have those things now
We don’t
Water that’s safe and without fear
A measure of peace
In our days and nights
Would this be a better world?
Of course, it would be
How otherwise?
A job
That’s not a dream deferred
So that we rise
Oh, yes, we rise
x
Join me a campaign, will you?
An open conspiracy
To find the smaller and the larger
Ways,
Practice them
To meet the needs of others
And ourselves
That’s it: no more profound than that

And yet that is so deeply profound. Absolutely. May we embrace this wisdom. May we manifest it!

Thank you, Judith. I do think this is something that we all could do.–Christopher

A whole lot more to it than that, I’m afraid. And different ways to get to even your goals. And I don’t think those are the only important things in life, either. What about self-respect, self-reliance, freedom, equal opportunity. Are those as important as safety and food on the table guaranteed? (Which is not possible for any government to do no matter what they promise). And maybe the former leads to the latter. Peace, I’m with you there. And I’m for actually personally helping others, not thinking that you vote for others to do it with tax money–that will never do it. Volunteer, donate to the right causes. Look around you and help. But don’t think there is ANY perfect solution. There never will be. (I hope you are well, Christopher. If you moved, I hope you are settling in well.)

Thanks, Lynn, and, no, I’m not moved yet. Terrible time to be looking. You’re right, of course, that there are things in the way regarding meeting universal need. And there are the other things you cite, self-respect for instance. Crucial. But I think if there weren’t so much widespread hunger, thirst, lack of shelter and security, we’d have a foundation for the rest. I know you live by helping others, which means to me that you are leading by example, too. I hope you’re really well and the last part of fall goes very pleasantly for you and your family.
