All the Children
x
It doesn’t take much
To go into a classroom
Filled with children
And a teacher
Carrying guns
And then proceed to shoot
There are no opponents
And no challenges
There
Where is the victory, then?
The mannish triumph?
Only destruction
Taking lives
Of those who don’t fight back
Cowardly command
Of a situation
Why not keep it to
A video game
Electrons make the hell of it
Pouring onto Earth?
x
This does not address
The visceral:
The violence of bullets
Piercing children’s flesh
And what the bullets do,
Once inside
Was this accomplishment?
Or would the defense
Have been insanity,
Should the shooter
Plan to live beyond the killing?
x
We’ll never know
There might have been no expectation
To live, after
It doesn’t matter
Unless to know
Somehow prevents another
Time
Of people killing children
Because they can

Here are the latest developments in the Uvalde elementary school mass shooting
As the town of Uvalde in South Texas mourns the killing of 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school, a vigil was held for the victims at a community arena Wednesday night.
“Amazing Grace” was played as those in attendance wept and hugged.
The mass shooting on Tuesday has again spurred statewide and national conversations over gun control, following on two others over a two-week period —at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and a church in Laguna Woods, California.

Absolutely vile and as you say, cowardly.

Yes, someone grown (mostly grown) with a gun, brutalizing, murdering children. Coward as well as criminal.

There was a lockdown at my granddaughter’s school a couple of weeks ago. A kid walked in with a gun and started yelling. Fortunately, he only had a toy gun. This madness needs to stop.

I’m so sorry to hear about what happened at your granddaughter’s school. I remember bomb threats. We took them lightly. This is different. It’s terrifying and, as you say, madness.

That sad, disturbed child who murdered children even younger than himself is less despicable than the Ted Cruzs the Trumps et all who make huge amounts of money promoting gun sales. They are the real villains and I hope they die slowly and horribly.

You’ve got it right, Jane; here was a “sad, disturbed child who murdered other children.” It can’t be left at this. It can’t be left to the mongers.

Using the bogey of ‘mentally ill’ comes back to slap you in the face. Either the US has far more that its fair share of head cases, or it denies any responsibility for looking after them. Neither option is very flattering.
Much simpler and safer to take away the guns.
